The Hummingbird Effect

The Hummingbird Effect (in a nutshell)-
As the creation of nectar became necessary to attract insects to flowering plants for reproduction, the hummingbird begins to change the pattern of it’s wing stroke. The development of nectar triggered insects to evolve, but what occurs next is an astronomical leap in evolution elsewhere! The hummingbird is the only of all birds which hovers and maneuvers swiftly around flowers. As insects begin to help flowering plants to pollinate, the development of nectar arises. The insects start to change their means of finding flowers, such as evolution in sight or smell. These nectars start to attract a species bearing zero significance to this area of nature, the hummingbird. The hummingbird’s wing begins to develop a down and an upstroke creating an infinity symbol and allowing it to hover alongside flowers. This is only bird to do this! What happened here was a natural change in evolution triggered a development far more astonishing and more unlikely to occur. This is the same occurrence as when the printing press was invented. The printing press shed light on a darker subject, far-sightedness. This led way to developing different types of lenses, later to the microscope. Microscopes revealed our cellular structure and gave new insight to disease. Now all of that occurred because of an invention that already seemed significant, but then opened up doors to whole other set of changes waiting to take place. If you’re interested in more changes like these please read the book, How We Got To Now but Steven Johnson. Each chapter is a different invention that sparked a much larger chain events elsewhere that no one saw coming. It is a beautiful book and a big reason why i chose to do this project.

Samadhi Amen

This project is a sister project of The Hummingbird Effect, an extension of the song. Samadhi is a state of being, a realm, or level of consciousness that can reached during meditation. I chose Amen as the second half of the title because I believe the history of Amen is derived from Om or Aum (the sound of all creation). Samadhi Amen is a description of my level of thought and the continuation of my soul. This song has a lot to do with death and how we believe were bound to it. I often sway between two extremes that determine how i live my life. One is making decisions because i know i will die one day and i shouldn't waste any valuable experience. The other is accepting all that comes with life including when i will die because it’s all a cycle and i know I am infinite. I feel this explains how i live to the fullest based on my fear of death and how i strive for all of my thoughts and actions to transcend this life, making them larger than what they are perceived to be. I don’t know what really came before or what is to come next but i do believe my thoughts will continue on and transcend flesh and bone, life and death, creation and destruction. I only hope i can inspire others to analyze their own lives and tell their stories. We would all love to hear.
